“Hello to all my fellow Khmer friends. It’s very nice to meet you. I’m Kimthea Layasia, a mommy, vintage collector, fashion blogger, smart shopper, arts & crafts, DIY kinda gal, stylist & photographer. Come browse or read on the latest at www.pursuitforvintage.com.” – Kimthea

Are you 100% Cambodian? If not, what else?

Kimthea: I am Khmer, Vietnamese, & Chinese. My mother is half Vietnam & half Cambodian. She was born & grew up in a small village in Vietnam, near the Cambodia border. I never met my dad, but what I know about him is from what my mother told me. My father is half Cambodian and half Chinese. He was born & grew up in Cambodia. But I’ve always consider myself 100% Cambodian. It’s the language and culture that I grew up with.

Where were you born and when did you come to the States?

Kimthea: I was born in the Battambong, a province in the Western part of Cambodia. My family and I came to states in January of 1985. We first arrived in Atlanta, Georgia.

Where you currently reside?

Kimthea: I am currently living in New Jersey.

When did you start collecting vintage items?

Kimthea: I started collection vintage for almost 12 years now. Some I have sold, donated, give-away but most I still currently have in my closets. I find it hard to give up such great treasures/find. I want to keep i t all to myself (especially ones that fit me)!!!

Who are you favorite designers?

Kimthea: I have too many, legendary or not. They are all inspirations to me. But if I have to really say one, it’ll have to be Coco Chanel. Coco Chanel creates timeless designs that are still popular today. One of my favorite quote from her, “A girl should be two things: classy and fabulous.”

Who are your fashion icons?

Kimthea: Everyone!

What is your favorite Khmer dish?

Kimthea: Some of my favorite Khmer dishes are Amok, K’tieu, Somlah Machou Khmae, Saik Ch’rouk Cha Kn’yei, NHOAM S’dao, & Loc Lac.

Kimthea definitely has inspired me to look into some online classes on fashion and design history. Check out more of her styles.
